 Rodrigo de Matos - Portugal
Rodrigo is the editorial cartoonist for the online edition of the newspaper Expresso, Portugal's main weekly newspaper. Born in Angola, in 1975, soon discovered what “political unrest” was about: the independency war in the former Portuguese colony that same year led him with his parents, as refugees, to settle in Brazil, where they lived 15 years. Rodrigo lived another 15 years in Portugal, where he got a degree in Journalism, by the University of Coimbra. Having finished his studies in Finland, he worked six years as a journalist in Lisbon, till he won his first contest as a comic author: the National Comic Contest of Montemor-o-Novo, in 2005, with a four page work about “racism”. That same year, he decided to leave the Portuguese capital and head to Madrid, where he finished recently the course of Editorial and Press Illustration.
